Lavender Lips

Kat Von D- Susperia
I've been really hesitant to try the "unnatural" lip colors because I'm still recuperating from my traumatic goth phase (and goth photos) during senior year of high school. However, "Echo" by Kat Von D has had me rethinking my comfort zone. Anyway, I went to Sephora last Saturday, but "Echo" was completely sold out :"( As I moped around the store without conciliation for my loss, I came upon an abundance of purple lipsticks. Stila's "Como" almost came home with me, but it had the same affect that most purple lipsticks have on teeth; they appeared more yellow. After making my lips swollen from trying all the purple shades near me, Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipstick "Susperia' was a winner. Not only does it not give you the unwanted yellow teeth but the color is so stunning especially with bronzer and golden eyes. I never fail to get compliments when I wear it. Now, lets talk about its staying power! This liquid lipstick feels everlasting! I wore it for about 6 hours and retouched it once only because I wanted to darken the color. Although it does come off a bit each time that you drink or eat, it somehow does not come completely off. It's not drying or crackling, I mean, Kat Von D should be reaaaally proud. For a lipstick of this color, pigment, and state (liquid), it's very low maintenance especially because it does not bleed more than normal lipstick. I feel like this is the start of a serious relationship with the Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks.

Lazy wavves

Thickening Spray
Surf Spray
Happy weekend guys, I hope you are enjoying it so far! I've been working on my final papers, but I took a short break to get my hair trim. I've had a pixie cut for ten years so the last time that I saw my hair long was when I was 11 years old. I've decided that I'd like to see how it suits me so I'm currently trying to grow it to about my collarbones. Naturally, I have very soft, straight hair which is a problem because it makes my hair lay very flat. My hairstylist, Liz, recommended these lightweight products to add texture and grip to my hair. She knows that I am not a fan of hot tools because I'm not very skilled and I prefer a natural, careless look. However, these are drying and mattifying products so keep that in consideration if you have naturally dry hair.

Surf Spray: After showering, spray the surf spray generously. Next, do scrunching motions by grabbing the ends in your palm and pressing it upward and against your scalp. After you've done this throughout your hair, grab your hairdryer and set it to medium heat with medium airflow (use a diffuser). Now, when the hair is in your loose fist, massage the hair a bit to create texture. Every so often, open your palm and continue massaging in order to blow dry your hair a bit. If you want volume, scrunch the hair in your fist, pull the hair upwards and blow dry your roots. Ta-daaaa! You've got easy, breezy wavvvvesss!
Texturizing Spray: Have fun and spray this all ova! It is lightweight and non-greasy. Rub your fingertips together and play with your hair. Your hair will get grip and allow you to style it simply by using your fingers. You can use this on days that you let your hair air dry in order to give it texture.

Alright, well back to homework time. Have a nice weekend!
P.S. There has been a storm all week so outfit photos are nearly impossible, sorry!

Clean sneaks

Shoes-Nike Air Force 1
I know, it seems like I've purchased an excessive amount shoes within a month. However, two of three pairs were needed: the rain boots and these AF1. In February, my bike was stolen which is really unfortunate since I used to bike to school. I hate looking for parking and my town is very bike friendly so it's the perfect transportation vehicle. Feeling a little bitter, I've put off buying another bike, and I've chosen to walk to school. Anyway, I walk about 6-7 miles every day because my campus is fairly large. At first, I wore my cute booties to school, but my feet started to hurt. I have two pairs of appropriate walking sneakers but since both are black, I decided to purchase a white pair in order to have more options. I think many college students can relate to being obsessed with sneakers. I definitely choose comfort over fashion, but I try to find a good balance between the two. However, these babies will not be seeing the outside in the near future because it is very muddy from all the recent rain.

It's strange but when I was younger, I had a hard time styling white shoes. Now that I'm older, I love having different syles of white shoes because they are versatile. The Air Force 1 style is a classic for good reasons; they are extremely comfortable, cute, and practical. I am beyond excited to be able to wear the once the rain ceases. How do you style your white sneakers?

Jumping over puddles

It's been pouring here for the last two weeks and I don't own any rain appropriate shoes. However, the puddles here get pretty deep so a lot of splashing occurs. I am originally from Southern California so I've never needed rain gear, but with spring approaching, I decided to order boots and a raincoat. After realizing my need for rain boots, I knew that Hunter boots would be in my near future. However, they're pricey so I was hesitant to splurge on a timeless, yet seasonal item. Although I am not an avid eBay buyer (except for textbooks), I decided to try it. I know, you may be judging because they're not brand new. However, I found a seller from Southern California who claims to have worn them once. The seller has great reviews and I know that if she lives in San Diego, she definitely did not use them much haha Anyway, I received my boots days within ordering them which is perfect since it has been pouring. My boots were delivered yesteryday and I could not be happier with my decision to purchase them. The bottom of the boots showed absolutely no wear; the white was still crisp white). If you want Hunter boots but aren't ready to spend a significant amount of money, I would consider eBay.
Lets talk about sizing! I endless reviewers suggest to prospective buyers purchasing one size smaller so I purchased a size 5 when I'm a true size 6. They're the tiiiniest bit small, but I think the 6 would've been too big. I'm going to keep them because I'm too lazy to undergo the return process. However, I'd suggest trying them on beforehand if they're accessible to you. I'll be purchasing the care spray that helps remove blooming. I cannot wait to style these babies because I'll be comfy and dry when walking around campus.

P.S. I've spotted them before on Nordstrom Rack and Hautelook for a nice price.

Little Boots

N.YL.A. 'Go-Go' Booties
Guys, I'm so excited about these! Everyone has a vice and mine is shoes. I had gone various months without purchasing any shoes. However, at some point in the fall, the craving for monochromatic red patent boots crept into my mischievous brain. It wasn't until I decided to sit down and really search for my dream red boots that I found these little babies. I found them at Nordstrom and ordered them immediately. I'm so glad that I caved into purchasing them because not only are they cute, but they're extremely comfortable. I ordered a size up as was recommended and they fit perfectly! Once I'm done with finals, these cuties will be hitting the town! If you're in a quarter system, good luck with finals!
Quick note, if you're into poetry then check out this book! I purchased this book for my love as a Valentine's Day gift. If you're not into poetry then make sure to check out Bukowski's other books because they're sooo good.

New year, new products

I've had short hair since 7th grade (nine years!) so it's been a long time since I've experienced long hair. However, for the past three years, I've been on a mission to grow out my pixie cut, but I can never fight the urge to cut it because the mullet stage is a hard to overcome. This year, I am determined to allow my hair past shoulder length because I'm curious as to how I'd look with longer hair. In order to promote hair growth, it's important to keep those locks healthy which means avoiding hot tools and damaging hair products. After doing some research, I decided to try Verb because it's formulated without parabens, sulfate, and phtalates. What really sold me is that it's cruelty free so yay for Verb! Anyway, I bought these products over two weeks ago, but I was waiting until I had tried them to critique them. I have a lot of hair, but it's very fine and straight. Hydrating shampoos and conditioners tend to weigh down my hair. However, Verb has done an amazing job so far and I've received compliments from strangers on the quality of my hair! I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.

I'm a sucker for the items that Sephora strategically places as one waits to pay. I have always wanted to love aluminum-free deodorants, but Tom's of Maine gives me an allergic reaction (really not cute). I've heard good things about this lil thang so I decided to give it a try! I really love the formula and subtle scent, but the real test will come when summer weather arrives. If it can keep me smellin' fresh in 115˚F days then I will be sold!

Have you tried any new products this year?

Sunday Savings

Backpack (similar), Blouse (similar), Skirt (similar), and Heels
On Sunday, I groggily woke up after a late skyping session with my boyfriend. I quickly got ready to pick up my friend, Regina, for our thrift shopping date. We traveled to our nearest Savers to scavenge for sweet spring and summer pieces. We quickly packed the cart with light dresses, skirts, and denim shirts. I found a lot of cute pieces, but many didn't fit quite right. Before, I used to enter a thrift store and leave with a large bag making the mistake of purchasing items simply because of the doable price. However, I've forced myself to be harsher on the pieces that I decide to bring home especially because I don't want to overflow my closet with pieces that I will neglect. I was searching for long, breezy dresses and denim shorts, but there weren't many options catering to my taste. Despite this, I love the three items that I chose because they're all practical items that I will put to use.

Afterward, our brunch, I went to Target for household items and came out with new makeup and heels. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I tend to run far away from heels. However, I'm pretty crazy about the wooden heel trend and Target did a good job with these cuties. They are comfortable, sturdy, and appear costlier than their price ($28). Currently, they will be tucked away in my closet until spring break because I'm currently a zombie as finals are quickly (very quickly) approaching.
